About The Writer/Director

Sarovar Banka, originally from Philadelphia, PA, is a graduate of Brown University, where he began his artistic career writing plays and making short films. 

Beginning as a writer, performer and director of sketch comedy, his first full length play “Ashes” was performed in Providence, RI and his second full length play “The Moral Implications of Time Travel” won the Weston Award for Best Undergraduate Play at Brown. Subsequent plays were performed in New York City, including the one act, “The End of the Apurnas” Off-Broadway at Theatre Row Studios, NYC.

At the same time, Sarovar made short films, serving in various capacities as writer, director, producer and cinematographer. He studied in New York University’s Summer Intensive filmmaking workshops.

He began work on his first feature film, A Decent Arrangement, which he wrote, produced, and directed. Shot entirely on location in India, with U.S. and Indian actors and an Indian crew, the production itself involved a blending of cultural ideas. It has played numerous festivals both in the U.S. and abroad, and was released theatrically in India. In 2016, it was acquired for exclusive streaming by worldwide by Netflix and is available on digital VOD.

Sarovar resides in Los Angeles and is currently working on television, film and digital projects.
